Sam Quealy announces new album “Jawbreaker”
In the late 2010’s Sam Quealy left Australia for Paris, starting off working as a showgirl, but quickly falling into the world of music. Described as a lifelong love. Today the techno-popstar has announced her new sophomore album “Jawbreaker”. Ultimately the result of the LP release, solidifies Sam Quealy as a shapeshifting visionary. You won’t see Quealy do the same thing twice, visually/sonically.
The album announcement also arrives alongside the second single release from the project – “Love Lasso” with accompanying video.
Quealy commented on the track, describing the themes of an ominous romanticism being present, “a toxic love that you keep coming back to even if it’s bad for you.”
Her debut “Blonde Venus” was a huge success, garnering widespread critical acclaim; she also later toured internationally with Yelle and La Femme. Whilst this album is a departure from “Blonde Venus”, with a new wave of lavish sound, live instrumentation, companied by themes of lust longing and self-celebration.
After moving from Australia to Paris, working as a showgirl at a cabaret, Quealy soon picked up music.
“At first I was mostly experimenting with writing lyrics, but during Covid I picked up guitar, learned piano, learned how to use Ableton,”
“It felt like I was able to take everything I loved—music, dance, performance art, fashion—and pour it all into one medium where there’s no rules or limits on what you can create.”
